Statement on Inclusive Language

The Department of Religion rests on a foundation of respect of all human beings.

We are fully committed to Emory University’s opposition to discrimination of all kinds. We are dedicated to providing equal opportunities to all individuals regardless of race, color, ethnic or national origin, gender, genetic information, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and veteran’s status.

We respect the use of pronouns as determined by each individual.

As an expression of this commitment, we advocate the use of inclusive language inside and out of the classroom in both written, oral, and non-verbal expressions.

We are a community that welcomes and honors different abilities, identities, languages, backgrounds, and religious traditions.

We support the intentional work of inclusion carried out by Emory’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
